Five-month pregnant housewife commits suicide in Kalihati

A five-month pregnant housewife named Barsha Sutradhar (19) has reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Baniyafair village of Sahadebpur union in Kalihati upazila of Tangail.

The incident took place on Thursday (June 18) between approximately 12:40 pm and 1:30 pm in the Baniyafair Sentur intersection area of ​​ward number 5 of Sahadebpur union of the upazila. The deceased Barsha Sutradhar is the wife of Ajay of the village.

Local and family sources said that Barsha Sutradhar was five months pregnant. At the time of the incident, her mother-in-law had gone to the market to buy medicine and other family members were not at home. It is initially reported that she took the opportunity to hang herself by wrapping a veil around the ceiling fan of her house.

Later, her mother-in-law returned home and found the door of the house locked from inside. After many calls, when she screamed and got no response, family members and people around her rushed to the spot. Later, the elder brother of the deceased’s husband opened the door, cut the noose around her neck and lowered the body down. However, it was learned that she had died by then.

Upon receiving the news, Kalihati Police Station SI Mofizul Islam arrived at the spot along with the accompanying force. He prepared a post-mortem report on the body and took further legal action.

The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the area. The specific reason for the suicide was not immediately known. The police said that the matter is being investigated.
